Small Wedding Venues in Melbourne & Surrounds

Melbourne and its surrounds offer some genuinely beautiful settings for intimate celebrations, from botanical warehouses in the inner city to heritage estates in the Dandenong Ranges. Below are the small wedding venues where Spinning Disc Entertainment has provided DJ and entertainment services.

Fergusson Winery - Barrel Room

82 Wills Rd, Yarra Glen VIC 3775

Fergusson Winery is one of the Yarra Valley’s most established wineries, and the Barrel Room is its most intimate event space. Tucked away among the barrels and cellar-door atmosphere of a working winery, it is a warm and characterful setting for a small wedding.

The rustic charm of the space pairs naturally with the Yarra Valley backdrop, and the in-house food and wine offering is exactly what you would hope for from a venue of this calibre. It is a particularly strong choice for couples who want a regional feel without travelling too far from Melbourne.

Elizabethan Lodge

604-610 Middleborough Rd, Blackburn North VIC 3130

Just 20 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Elizabethan Lodge is set on three acres in the leafy eastern suburbs and offers a dedicated micro wedding package for 20 to 60 guests.

With a sandstone chapel, fairy-lit gardens, a chandelier-lit ballroom, and onsite accommodation for guests, it has everything couples need in one location. The all-inclusive package covers catering, beverages, styling, and a personal coordinator, so there is very little left to organise yourself. The gardens are private and not visible from the street, which means your first look at the grounds is genuinely a surprise.

Pietro Gallus Estate

54-56 Brumbys Rd, Warrandyte South VIC 3134

Forty-five minutes from Melbourne in the hills of Warrandyte South, Pietro Gallus Estate transports you to the Tuscan countryside. The estate spans 20 acres of citrus groves, olive trees, a distillery, and a kitchen garden, with several distinct spaces to choose from.

For small weddings, La Cantina is the standout: a warm, private dining room with a 1920s Italian wine cellar feel, a handcrafted wooden table at its centre, a private bar, and leather couches. It seats around 20 guests in a genuinely intimate setting.

For slightly larger groups, La Terrazza offers a split-level space with rolling hill views and a sunken garden courtyard, suitable for up to 60 cocktail-style. The food is modern Italian using estate-grown produce, and the estate makes its own wine, spirits, and liqueurs.

Berth Docklands

45 Newquay Promenade, Docklands VIC 3008

Berth is a modern waterfront venue perched above its iconic restaurant on New Quay Promenade, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Victoria Harbour and the Melbourne skyline. Among small wedding venues Melbourne’s Docklands precinct has to offer, Berth stands out for its combination of city views and genuine warmth.

The upstairs function space seats up to 60 guests for a wedding reception, with an adjoining balcony perfect for pre-dinner drinks. Ceremony, reception, and photos can all happen on site, and the venue’s experienced events team handles the logistics.

Glasshaus Inside

44 Cremorne St, Cremorne VIC 3121

Hidden in a 1920s warehouse in Cremorne, just minutes from the CBD, Glasshaus Inside is one of Melbourne’s most visually striking small wedding venues.

The space combines industrial architecture with lush botanical styling: plants drape from the ceiling and walls throughout, meaning minimal additional decoration is needed. Natural light floods the space during the day, and the atmosphere shifts beautifully into the evening.

It seats up to 110 guests for a reception, making it more flexible than most venues on this list. The venue is also open to external caterers and suppliers, giving couples more control over their day. For couples drawn to something botanical, moody, and genuinely different, Glasshaus Inside is hard to beat.

Avalon Castle

1 Flora Close, Waratah Way, Cockatoo VIC 3781

Voted Victoria’s Best Wedding Ceremony Location, Avalon Castle sits high on a two-acre property in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges with four ceremony spaces to choose from: a vintage chapel with stained glass, a rose terrace, a rustic gazebo, and lush garden grounds.

The micro wedding package covers six hours of exclusive venue access, a three-course meal with canapés, a five-hour beverage package, full styling, and a dedicated coordinator. Onsite accommodation for up to 20 guests means the celebration does not have to end when the reception does. It is a genuinely complete package for a small wedding in a storybook setting.

Desir Cocktail Lounge

Shop 6/11 Commercial Rd, Caroline Springs VIC 3023

Desir is one of Melbourne’s best-kept secrets for couples who want something relaxed, stylish, and a little different. Located in Caroline Springs, this wine and cocktail bar is one of the more unique small wedding venues Melbourne’s west has to offer. The venue has a warm, sophisticated atmosphere that lends itself naturally to low-key celebrations. Weddings here tend to be cocktail-style, casual in feel, and genuinely fun.

The venue offers an extensive cocktail and mocktail menu, cocktails on arrival, and feature shots at speeches, all within a fully private space. No fuss, no formality, just good drinks, great people, and a setting that looks beautiful without trying too hard. Capacity is up to 60 guests, making it ideal for a small wedding reception or an intimate after-ceremony gathering.

Poet's Lane, Sherbrooke

13 Sherbrooke Rd, Sherbrooke VIC 3789

Set deep in the Dandenong Ranges just 50 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Poet’s Lane is a heritage property with nearly 100 years of history and one of the most romantic atmospheres of any venue in Victoria.

The property features a stunning indoor chapel with stained glass windows and crystal chandeliers, a garden gazebo, oak-lined laneways, a picturesque bridge, and beautifully maintained grounds that change with the seasons. Only one wedding is held per day, so the entire venue is yours. Onsite accommodation in charming cottages means guests can stay the night.

The reception room seats up to 170 guests, so while it comfortably handles larger weddings, the exclusivity and intimacy of the setting makes it equally wonderful for smaller celebrations of 60 to 80.

Small Wedding Venues Melbourne FAQ

What is considered a small wedding in Melbourne? Most venues consider a small wedding to be anywhere from 20 to 80 guests. Below 30 is often referred to as a micro wedding or elopement-style celebration. The small wedding venues Melbourne couples tend to favour for this size include dedicated packages at Elizabethan Lodge, Avalon Castle, and Pietro Gallus Estate.

Q: Do small wedding venues in Melbourne require a minimum spend? A: Most do, yes. Minimums vary by venue and day of the week, with weekday and off-peak bookings typically carrying lower thresholds. It is always worth asking about midweek or winter options if budget is a priority.

Q: Can I have a DJ at a small wedding venue? A: In most cases, yes. Venues like Glasshaus Inside, Elizabethan Lodge, Berth, Avalon Castle, and Poet’s Lane all accommodate a DJ for the reception. Some smaller spaces like Desir may have noise or space considerations worth discussing with the venue directly.

Q: Do I need a separate ceremony venue for a small wedding? A: Not necessarily. Several venues on this list offer ceremony and reception in the one location, including Elizabethan Lodge, Avalon Castle, Berth, and Poet’s Lane. This is one of the biggest practical advantages of choosing a dedicated wedding venue over a restaurant or bar hire.

Q: How far in advance should I book a small wedding venue in Melbourne? A: For weekend dates, 12 to 18 months ahead is typical for popular venues. Midweek and off-peak dates can sometimes be secured with just a few months notice, and some venues offer specific packages for shorter lead bookings.

Dan is a superb DJ and entertainer! He was great to work with, communicative, and really had a keen sense of what our style and vibe was – we had our wedding 5 months ago, and we STILL have so many guests rave about how amazing Dan was! We are so grateful for the fantastic atmosphere he provided, the amazing music, and how accommodating he was when we had a last minute change of plan for end of the night activities 🙂 We also booked the Party Pix Photobooth through Dan and Magenta was so so lovely operating the photobooth, keeping the vibes up, and helping us to print multiples of each photostrip! Guests also recieved digital copies, and so do we have digital copies of all the fun everyone had with it! We could not recommend Dan and Magenta more!

We hired DJ Dan for our wedding on the 11.04.26 and were very happy with the service provided. He provided music for both our ceremony and reception – he did an outstanding job choosing and mixing the music throughout the night! We had children at the event and he was able to adapt the music throughout the night to suit everyone of all ages. He was very engaging and was able to get people up dancing for hours! Highly recommend booking him for your next event 😊

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience with DJ Dan and his team, Jay, the acoustic singer—what an incredible duo!DJ Dan was an outstanding MC. He kept everything running smoothly and made the entire reception feel seamless. One of the highlights was the scavenger game he recommended—it got everyone involved and was still being talked about long after the wedding. He also did a fantastic job choosing music during the quieter moments, creating the perfect atmosphere. Every request we made came to life exactly how we envisioned. What really stood out was how thoughtful and organised he was. Before the reception, he came over and had a quick discussion with us to walk through what would happen. Throughout the night, he continued to check in and keep us informed about what was coming next, which made us feel so comfortable and at ease.Jay was absolutely amazing. She followed all instructions perfectly, and her performance during our first dance was unforgettable. She learned a song especially for us and honestly sang it even better than the original—it completely blew us away. Although I couldn’t move as much due to my dress, hearing that song performed live with so much soul made the moment incredibly special. We are so grateful to both of them for working so well together and creating such a memorable experience. They were professional, talented, and affordable—everything you could hope for.We will definitely be hiring them again for future events and will be recommending them to all our friends and family. Truly a fantastic experience!
