Party Pix wedding photo booth setup at Fergusson Winery Yarra Valley

Should I get a photobooth for my wedding?

A wedding photo booth is one of those additions that guests genuinely love.
The prints become keepsakes, the GIFs end up in group chats, and there is
always someone in a feather boa who absolutely did not plan to be. But is a
wedding photo booth right for your day? Here is how to work it out.

When Is a Wedding Photo Booth Right for You?

A wedding photo booth works best when your reception has the right conditions
for guests to actually use it. The sweet spots are:

Ceremony and reception at the same venue. There is usually an hour of canapes
between the ceremony and the reception. This is the perfect time to kick off
the photo booth, get guests laughing and loosened up before the formalities begin.

A longer reception of 5 hours or more. Guests have time to move around the
room, mingle between courses, and visit the booth multiple times across the
night. With a shorter reception, the booth can feel rushed or underused.

A relaxed wedding that is light on formalities. Short speeches, early first
dance, then party the night away. If that sounds like your day, a wedding
photo booth is a natural fit.

A cocktail-style reception. When guests are already on their feet during
canapes, a photo booth is the perfect drawcard. No one needs convincing to
stop and pull a pose.

When Is a Photo Booth Not Worth It?

There are a couple of wedding styles where a photo booth hire might not give
you the best value.

A reception of 3 to 4 hours with a sit-down dinner. Shorter receptions move
fast. Guests tend to stay seated through meals and formalities, and by the
time the dancefloor opens there is often only an hour left. A photo booth can
go largely unused in this format.

A reception focused entirely on dancing. If your goal is a packed dancefloor
from the first dance to the last song, be aware that a photo booth pulls
guests away from the floor. It is a fun distraction, but it is a distraction.
For purely dancefloor-focused couples, the booth can work against the vibe
you are building.

So, Should You Get a Wedding Photo Booth?

If your reception ticks any of the boxes above, yes. A wedding photo booth
adds an extra layer of entertainment that keeps guests engaged between
formalities and gives everyone something to take home at the end of the night.

The Party Pix booth uses a high-quality DSLR camera and prints 6×2 inch
photo strips on the spot. You choose your backdrop from 24 options to suit
your wedding style, and your photo strip design can be personalised with
your names or a message. The booth has been set up at weddings across
Melbourne and regional Victoria, from wineries and barns to ballrooms and
garden venues.

Dan works with every couple in the planning meetings to build a run sheet
that fits a photo booth into the flow of your day without it competing with
your dancefloor time. If you are unsure whether it suits your wedding, just
ask during your planning meeting and we will give you an honest answer.
